Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a new platform 'Transparent Taxation - Honoring the Honest', with an aim to provide faceless and seamless experience to taxpayers. The new plarform is another effort in direct tax reforms that the Modi Government wants to bring in. The option of faceless appeal will be available from September 25 on the platform while taxpayer charter will come into place from today itself.

Addressing the nation after the launch, PM Modi said that the government is trying to make the taxation process more seamless, painless and faceless. He said that the idea is to solve the problems of taxpayers and not confuse them.  

“During the last six years, our focus has been on banking the unbanked, securing the unsecured, funding the unfunded. Today, we are launching Honouring the Honest,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Taking a jibe at previous governments, PM Modi said that there was a time when decisions were taken in desperation or under pressure, and they were called reforms. He added that the ongoing structural reforms in the country have reached a new phase.  

"Transparent Taxation - Honoring the Honest will have faceless assessments, faceless appeal and taxpayer charter. Faceless appeal will be applicable from September 25, while faceless assessment and taxpayer charter will come into place from today itself,” PM Modi said. 

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that today is the landmark day in the history of taxation administration.  

“To realise the mission of honoring honest taxpayers, CBDT has put in place a platform - "Transparent Taxation - Honoring the Honest, she said.
