PM Narendra Modi - Day 1, Job 1: Heres what prime minister did after taking oath

Soon after taking oath as the Prime Minister of India for the second time, Narendra Modi had his first engagement with the visiting president of Kyrgyz republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov in Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10.15 pm Thursday. PM Modi tweeted, "Held extensive deliberations with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Sooronbay Jeenbekov. Our talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral ties between our nations and ways to deepen economic and social cooperation in the times to come." Kyrgyzstan is currently the Chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and an important partner of India in Central Asia. President Jeenbekov also warmly congratulated the Prime Minister and reiterated the invitation for him to visit Kyrgyzstan for the SCO Summit and a bilateral visit during 13-15 June, 2019, informed PMO.

On his part, PM Modi expressed satisfaction at the strengthening of bilateral cooperation over the years. He warmly thanked President Jeenbekov for his presence at the Swearing-in Ceremony, expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan and said that he looked forward to the visit eagerly.  

President Jeenbekov was in New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. "Getting down to work after the oath-taking ceremony...PM @narendramodi held wide-ranging talks with President Sooronbay Jeenbekov of the Kyrgyz Republic," PMO tweeted.

Today, PM Modi will start his second term in office with a series of bilateral meetings with visiting BIMSTEC leaders, who were invited for the swearing-in ceremony. 

PM Modi will first meet Bangladesh President Mohammed Abdul Hamid in Hyderabad House. This will be followed by meeting with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and Bhutan Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering.

By inviting BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) leaders, PM Modi has has singnalled a major outreach to countries in India's neighbourhood - from the Bay of Bengal to Central Asia. 

President of Myanmar U Win Myint and Special Envoy of Thailand Grisada Boonrach also attended the ceremony at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Apart from India, BIMSTEC comprises Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.

BIMSTEC was founded in 1997. It currently represents over 1.5 billion people and have a combined GDP of USD 3.5 trillion
