PM Modi to visit Chhattisgarh in August, will inaugurate new campus of IIT Bhilai and two flyovers
PM Modi was earlier expected to visit the city in the month of May, but due to the delay in the completion of several projects the inauguration ceremony was pushed back to August.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi may head to Chattisgarh’s Bhilai in August, according to reports. During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate several projects including two flyovers, a solar power plant for the railways, and the new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai. The Prime Minister’s Office has reportedly sent details of the visit to the IIT and the district administration, asking them to prepare the campus for the planned visit.
The news of the visit has not yet been confirmed by the PMO, but is expected to be officially announced by next week. Preparations for PM Modi’s visit will also begin from Monday. Reports state that PM Modi will directly reach the new Kutelabhata campus of IIT Bhilai, with four new helipads being constructed within the campus itself. The inauguration ceremony is expected to take place over two hours and PM Modi will be accompanied by Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan.

IIT Bhilai was first inaugurated in 2016 as part of the Union government’s push to open six new IITs. The new campus building for the university is being built at a cost of Rs 720 crore. With the inauguration of the new campus, students will also be shifted and the new academic session is also expected to begin.
Apart from the new campus, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the new solar power plant built by the Indian Railways in Charoda. Once operational, the solar power plant is expected to save the Indian Railways up to Rs 360 crore annually in terms of electricity tariff.
