The official schedule for the 2024 Quad summit has not been announced yet, but India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (May 20) hinted that the country may host it next year. The Prime Minister is in Hiroshima, where he is also attending the G7 summit, along with the Quad summit.

In his opening remark for the Quad summit, he said, "We will be happy to host Quad Summit in India in 2024." 

He was addressing the leaders of the US, Australia and Japan, during the meet, where he also emphasised on global welfare and the prosperity of people. 

"Quad will continue to make efforts towards global good, welfare of the people, prosperity and peace," he said.

Though India is yet to make an official announcement of the hosting rights for the 2024 Quad summit. The PM's remark at the summit hints so. 

Quad calls for resolution on Ukraine

The Quad leaders today also called for the resolution of the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy while asserting that it must not be an era of war, a formulation that echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's position.

Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese held talks on pressing global challenges including the Ukraine conflict at the summit.

After the summit, the leaders released a joint statement that touched upon the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the East and South China seas and their vision for the Indo-Pacific region.
