PM-KUSUM: Maharashtra government gives order worth Rs 150 crore

In a bid to push sustainable development and renewable energy, the Maharashtra government has allotted a solar project order worth Rs 150 crore. 

The project involves the supply, installation and maintenance of solar-powered agricultural pumps in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthan Mahabhiyaan (PM-KUSUM) - one of the largest initiatives to provide clean energy to more than 35 lakhs farmers by solarising their agriculture pump.

The order, which has been allotted to Ishan International, involves the installation of 5,000 sets of solar-powered agricultural pumps. 

Expansion of the PM-KUSUM Scheme

The initially approved scheme aims to add solar capacity of 25.75 GW by 2022. The total central financial support provided under the scheme was over Rs 34,000 crore. 

In the Budget for 2020-21, expansion of the scheme was announced, which was later approved by the Government with the inclusion of feeder-level solarisation as a new variant under ComponentC. With the expansion, the targeted solar capacity addition under the scheme would be 30.8 GW.
