Petrol, diesel get cheaper in Maharashtra as government cuts VAT; Check new rates
The Maharashtra government on Thursday slashed value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel.
Petrol, diesel price Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government on Thursday slashed value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. The decision will make petrol cheaper by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3 per litre in the state.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the cut in VAT will cost the state Rs 6,000 crore a year. He exuded confidence that the decision will provide relief people of the state who are already facing the brunt of inflation.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the decision would provide 'great relief to Maharashtrian & Marathi Manus'. "Happy to announce that new Government under CM Eknathrao Shinde has decided to reduce Petrol & Diesel prices by Rs 5/litre & Rs 3/litre respectively," he tweeted.''
"This is our step towards the appeal made by PM Narendra Modi ji for benefit to common citizens," he said in another tweet.
In Thane, petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 106.49 and Rs 94.42 per litre respectively.
Whereas in Pune, petrol has been priced at Rs 105.88 per litre, while diesel will be sold at Rs 92.37 for one litre.
Diesel price in Mumbai after the price cut is Rs 94.28 per litre and Rs 106.35 per litre for petrol.
