PAN-Aadhaar linking Alert! Deadline looming, rush to do this or get ready to be slapped with a penalty
To facilitate easy updation of Aadhaar card, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has also opened new Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in seven cities in the country.
PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline: Earlier the Income Tax Department had extended the deadline to link Aadhaar Card with PAN (Permanent Account Number) Card from 31st March 2019 to 30th September 2019. If taxpayers failed to do this, their Income Tax Returns (ITR) will not be processed and any banking transaction above Rs 50,000 will not be possible. In fact, the Income Tax department has made PAN-Aadhaar linking mandatory without which PAN might be declared inoperative by the tax department. This warning was sent via an Income Tax Department notification.
So, those who are yet to link their PAN card with Aadhaar card, should rush to get it done as the last date is till September 30.

As per the finance ministry notification, every person who has been allotted a PAN and who is eligible to get an Aadhaar number has to link the two together. Earlier, the Supreme Court also upheld the section 139AA of the Income Tax Act which makes PAN-Aadhaar linking mandatory. It is already mandatory to quote the Aadhaar number while filing income tax returns (ITR).
There are various ways through which one can link their Aadhar Card with PAN Card.
Online:
One can log in to the Income Tax e-filing website ie.www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home to link one's Aadhaar Card with its PAN Card by downloading a form, filling the information needed and submitting it online. However, the process might be lengthy and it may happen that a person is unable to link his or her Aadhaar Card with PAN card by logging in to the Income Tax e-filing website. However, they should keep trying as this is the best possible method.
SMS:
One can also opt for the SMS option, One needs to first type UIDPAN 123456789012 ABCDE1234F and send this message to 567678 or 56161 from the mobile number registered with your Aadhar Card; After sending the message, you will receive the receipt of this message through an SMS, and then after few days, you will receive the linking of the Aadhaar Card with you Pan Card on the same mobile via SMS.
