7th Pay Commission: In the face of protests by contractual teachers in Bihar and some people instigating them further, CM Nitish Kumar made a very crucial statement to them. This statement by CM Nitish Kumar can come as great relief to around 3.5 lakh contractual teachers. Nitish Kumar reminded teachers that their first task was to teach in responsible manner and that they should look after this main thing first and then would his government be favourably inclined towards their pay hike demands.
Informing about the 7th CPC to the contractual teachers in the state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said in Begusarai during his Nischay Yatra, "Some people are spreading rumours that the contractual teachers are not entitled to availing wage hike after implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. This is wrong and they will get benefits of the pay commission." This was reported by Hindustan Times.
His announcement is expected to work as a balm to the agitating contractual teachers who had announced to go on strike if the 7th Pay Commission benefits are denied to them any more. Majority of the contractual teachers in Bihar have been recruited between 2006 to 2016. They have been asking for a pay hike for a long time.
Just a day before on Teacher's Day, Nitish Kumar had hinted about such decision in regard to 7th Pay Commission demand by the contractual teachers was coming. On his Teacher's Day address Nitish Kumar had indirectly hit out at the entire opposition for allegedly fanning the stir after having called them “incompetent” earlier and also having blamed them for “destroying education” citing, “I always said that the teachers are competent. I have always stood by the teachers. I respect the teachers. And all I can assure you on the Teachers’ day is that in the future also, only we will do something, not those giving lip service.”
The Bihar CM went on to add that when his government came to power, he had made large-scale recruitment citing, "We did so with a fixed pay of Rs 4000-7000, but later increased it and in 2015 put teachers on a pay-scale. In 2017, we also announced 7th pay commission benefits. Still, if I have to face criticism, I humbly take it in my stride. But be sure, only we will do it again.”
Therefore, Nitish Kumar had already hinted about his government's intentions a day ago in Teacher's Day that his government is seriously thinking of giving 7th Pay Commission benefits to near 3.5 lakh contractual teachers across the state.
