The import of consumer goods has been increased upto Rs 50,000 in duty free from the earlier limit of Rs 2,000.
The import of consumer goods has been increased upto Rs 50,000 in duty free from the earlier limit of Rs 2,000. The amended provision is for consumer electronic items (except hearing aids and life-saving equipments, apparatus and appliances and parts thereof), according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
This would include the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of goods imported should not exceed Rs 50,000. “CIF value of import of consumer electronic items at any one time by any person through post or otherwise for personal use is enhanced to Rs 50,000,” it further added.
The amendment was made under Clause 3(1)(i)(h) of the Foreign Trade (Exemption from application of Rules in certain cases) order, 1993.
