Heavy traffic in Mumbai is an unpleasant reality. What is worse, it interferes badly even during emergencies. However, help is on way. Now, in a bid to deal with medical emergencies efficiently and in timely fashion, the Lodha Foundation has introduced a 24/7 ambulance service in the city. This bike ambulance will be equipped with a first-aid kit and even an oxygen cylinder. This free bike ambulance service has been introduced by the charitable trust in order to provide to the citizens quick service in times of emergency and thereby help save lives.

The best part is that, unlike big four-wheeled ambulance vans used for the purpose, these bikes can move very swiftly through heavy traffic. The Lodha foundation came up with this unique idea of a bike ambulance service after realising that there was a big need for a service like this. And to ensure everyone is served equally, the service is available for free. The bikes will carry patients to the nearby hospitals during an emergency. The service is not meant just for local areas, it will also cover long distances. Sometimes four-wheeler ambulances get stuck in heavy traffic, these two-wheeler ambulances can easily negotiate the same with expert drivers at the helm.

Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a politician and founder of the charitable trust, said that the ambulance was capable of entering narrow lanes and it had all the facilities that a normal ambulance has including, medical kit, stretcher and oxygen cylinder, along with the provision of a space for a doctor to sit at the back.

Notably, and quite surprisingly, these bike ambulances are not a new concept in India.  In remote areas of Chhattisgarh, such motorcycle-ambulances have saved several lives, since the service was first launched in July, 2018.

This service is also available in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The service in these two cities has been of great help to the patients, especially for accident victims.
