Suresh Prabhu-led Indian Railways is planning to introduce travel insurance on journey undertaken on its vast network.

According to the plan, a traveller will be asked to pay a reasonable sum of Rs 10 to Rs 20 during the ticket booking process on Indian Railways' website to get an insurance of Rs 10 lakh. 

The insurance will be optional for travellers and the pilot project will begin from August this year. 

According to the plan, a passenger will get an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh for permanent disability or death, Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for partial disability or injuries and hospitalisation, respectively.
