New Rs 5 coin introduced: Check images, features, shape and everything else
The front face of the coin will have the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend 'Satyamev Jayate' in Hindi inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word 'Bharat' in Hindi language and on the right with word “INDIA” in English.
Ministry of Finance issued a notification on March 6 announcing the launch of 5 new coins in the country namely new One Rupee, Two Rupees, Five Rupees, Ten Rupees and Twenty Rupees coins. The ministry claims that these coins will have enhanced design and are visually impaired friendly. The coins were launched by PM Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday. In a notification, the ministry says that "The coins of One Rupee, Two Rupees, Five Rupees, Ten Rupees and Twenty Rupees shall also be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government."
Features of FIVE RUPEES new coin:
The front face of the coin will have the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend 'Satyamev Jayate' in Hindi inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word 'Bharat' in Hindi language and on the right with word “INDIA” in English.
The back face of the coin will have a denominational value “5” in the international numerals. The Rupee symbol shall be shown above the denominational value. The coin also has a design of grains depicting the agricultural dominance of the country is flanked on the left periphery of the coin. The top right and bottom right peripheries have the word 'Paanch Rupaye' in Hindi and “FIVE RUPEES” in English. The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown in the centre of the left periphery of the coin.
Talking about the shape and outside diameter, then the new Rs 5 coin has 25 mili-meter circular. It has a metal composition with 75%of copper, 20% of Zinc and 05% Nickel.
Whereas the Old 5 Rs coin is minted with cupro-Nickel, The diameter of the old coin is 23mm and the weight of the coin is 5.3 grams.
In the old coin, The Lion Capital of Ashoka is minted on the obverse along with the denomination below. In some of the Rs 5 coins, the denomination alone was minted on the obverse and the Lion Capital minted on the reverse side. Old coins are also minted with the face of Indira Gandhi in her assassination, Also Jawaharlal Nehru during his 100th birthday anniversary.
