Delhi Labour Policy Draft: Delhi govt employees to get double salary on overtime, women can work in night shifts
According to the new labour policy, working for more than 8 hours a day or more than 48 hours a week will be considered as overtime.
Delhi Labour Department approved draft: In a step that would provide benefits to a number of a employees, specially women, the Delhi government's labour department has approved a new proposal for the employees. According to the new draft, now overtime employees in Delhi will get full benefit of their hard work and they will be given double salary.
What will be the rule for overtime?
According to the policy, working for more than 8 hours a day or more than 48 hours a week will be considered as overtime.
The policy further says that no employee will be able to work for more than 12 hours a day and more than 60 hours a week.
Along with this, employees will not do overtime for 7 consecutive days. If an employee works overtime, he will be paid twice the hourly rate on the basis of minimum wages.
Women can work in night shifts
Labour Minister Raj Kumar Anand held a high-level meeting and discussed the draft made on other points, including allowing women to work in night shift and their safety.
Keeping in mind the safety of women, employers will have to make proper arrangements for women at the workplace.
Women's consent will be necessary
Under the policy, women will be able to work from 7 pm to 6 am during the night shift.
However, for this, the consent of women employees will be very important.
For women working in night shifts, employers will have to arrange transport from home to office.
Apart from this, there should be proper arrangements for toilets, drinking water, and transportation for women at the workplace and it should be near their workplace.
Along with this, for the safety of women, employers will have to issue a separate number, which should be written at the workplace as well as on the vehicle so that in case of any emergency, women employees can dial it to seek help.
For the prevention of sexual harassment of women at the workplace, proper arrangements should be made following the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013.
Employees will get experience letters, salary slips
In the meeting, the labour minister said that it will be mandatory to give joining and experience letter to all the employees working in any field.
Employers will have to ensure that the records of all the employees working with them should be recorded. Along with this, all the employees must get salary slips.
