Mumbai weather update today: Financial capital of India, Mumbai is waterlogged and  jams and delays are making the public miserable. This is because the highest 24-hour rain of season fell on Wednesday. Mumbai had heavy rains with Colaba rain gauge recording over 170mm, its highest yet in a 24-hour period this season, leaving many parts of the city flooded in the early hours of the day due to high tide and heavy rain.

Mumbai witnessed huge traffic jams on the busy roads with many routes of BEST buses diverted. While the suburban railways of the city ran with delays. Mumbai received a heavy rainfall, started in the southern part of the city on Tuesday night and then moved towards the suburbs. 

According to the Indian Meteorological Department data, Santacruz received 84.2 mm while Colaba witnessed 173.6 mm rain up to 8.30 am which receded thereafter. The city also had a high tide recorded at 4:30 am on Wednesday. The areas like Sion Circle, Hindmata Junction, Gandhi market, Kurla rail station, Andheri Subway, S. V. Road were flooded in water. While a part of hill collapsed on few huts with no residents in Valmiki Nagar slum area at Asalfa village.

There were around 15 to 20 minutes delays in Western, Central and Harbour trains. While the BEST bus routes, lifelines of city had to be diverted from Hindmata cinema, Sion Raod, Gandhi Market, Alankar Talkies, Bhendi Bajar, Pratiksha Nagar, Goregaon Siddharth hospital and near National College, Bandra due to waterlogging on busy routes. 

Prospect of more rain hitting Mumbai are positive and the public may have to bear more delays and traffic jams over the next 24 hours or so.
