Mumbai Rains: Severe waterlogging; trains, local on these routes, stations affected - Check details

With severe waterlogging after heavy rains lashed Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra on Wednesday, normal life in the state has been disrupted. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the administration to ensure that the accumulated rainwater is drained out at the earliest.

As per the information, Mumbai local train services were suspended between some stations as a precautionary measure. Shivaji M Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway, Mumbai said that train services between Kurla and CSMT were suspended as the water was flowing over tracks between Kurla and Sion stations, as per a report by ANI.

As per a PTI report, CM Uddhav Thackeray had chaired a meeting of the disaster management authority and directed authorities to be prepared to tackle any eventuality given the prediction of heavy rains.

The Chief Minister also spoke to the control rooms in Mumbai and collectors of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar districts as incessant rains led to the inundation of several areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted "Due to the strengthening of westerly winds along the west coast; enhanced rainfall activity with heavy falls likely to continue along the West coast including Maharashtra and Telangana during next 5 days."

The city police have appealed to Mumbaikars not to step out of their homes unnecessarily and cautioned them against travelling to some of the inundated areas.

Mumbai has been receiving rainfall since Tuesday night. IMD recorded rainfall in Santacruz at 50.4 mm and in Colaba at 65.4 mm, as per a report by ANI.

"Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today, normal arrival date is June 10 every year so it has arrived prior to the average arrival date," said Dr Jayanta Sarkar, Deputy Director General (DDG), IMD Mumbai.
