Mumbai rains: Flights delayed, water logging expected - IndiGo, Vistara issue warning
Mumbai rains: Airlines like IndiGo and Vistara have warned their passengers about flights to and from Mumbai airport. They have strictly stated to check flight status before leaving home.
After witnessing moderate rains in the past few days, Mumbai once again faced heavy showers on Wednesday with many areas getting affected. Massive dark clouds have taken over the Indian financial hub. From late night on Tuesday, till early morning today Mumbai has received three-digit heavy rains impacting rail, road and air transport. Many flights have already been either delayed or cancelled at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Rains are expected to continue and even get severe in next 48 hours. With that, airlines like IndiGo and Vistara have warned their passengers about flights to and from Mumbai airport. They have strictly stated to check flight status before leaving home.
Vistara said, "#TravelUpdate : Due to heavy rains in Mumbai, flights to/from Mumbai may be impacted throughout the day. Please visit (link: http://airvistara.com) airvistara.com or SMS UK <flight no> to 9289228888 for updated flight status. Thank you."
While IndiGo said, "#6ETravelAdvisory: Request all passengers to check for delays due to heavy rains in #Mumbai. For flight status, visit (link: http://goindigo.in) goindigo.in or send an SMS ST <flight no.><flight date> as DDMM, e.g. for flight 6E-333 for Jul 24, send ST 333 2407 to 566772."
Hence, one can follow above procedure to know the details of their Vistara and IndiGo flights.
According to Skymet, the city did not face rain for a while but was hit by rainfall yesterday afternoon. The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in Hindmata and adjoining areas. The weather forecaster pointed out that between 2:30 am and 5:30 am, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded 51 mm of rains and continue to lash many parts of the city now as well.
In fact on flights and Mumbai airport, the forecaster said, "the visibility at the Mumbai Airport has dropped to 300 metres. Thus, flight delays and diversions are on cards for the city as Mumbai rains continue to get heavy." Hence, it is quite understandable why Airport authorities and airlines are finding it difficult to take their flights up in air in Mumbai skies.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Mumbai rains are expected to continue today as well, and the rains are expected to remain intense. The next five to six hours will see some intense spells of rains for the city of Mumbai.
"Office commuters and school goers must pay heed as rains will be intense enough to cause water logging in many parts and traffic chaos may be seen which will cause difficulty in reaching on time. The possibility of locals being delayed also cannot be ruled out," said Skymet.
