Mumbai is witnessing severe weather since the last week of June 2019 with rainfall virtually bringing Maximum city to its knees. Although, the monsoon kicked off late, it would not be wrong to say heavy rains have covered every part of Maharashtra in just 2 weeks. The impact of heavy rains was massive in Mumbai, with many flights being diverted or delayed, local trains cancelled or delayed, and in the meanwhile, traffic took a severe hit due to water logging too. On Wednesday, Mumbai has been witnessing rains since early morning, with Skymet weather forecast warning the public about traffic jams across the city as heavy spells are expected to continue throughout the day. The Central Railways have already delayed various express trains at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and LTT.

On Wednesday, the Central Railways mentioned via its Twitter account that, 12598 Antyodaya train, which was scheduled for departure today, has now been rescheduled at 0030 hours on Thursday. The regulatory said, “Inconvenience caused is regretted.”

Further, two special suburban trains were run from Kurla to CSMT between 10.00 am and 10.30 am on mail line in order to clear the extra rush of passengers. Not only that, both harbour and central line saw massive slowdown in operation and continued passengers rush. In fact, harbour line local trains were also held up at few stations, after resuming services at around 0952 hours on Wednesday. 

Data given by Skymet showed that, Mumbai rains have displayed a bumper performance in the first week of July wherein the city saw three-digit rains on three occasions, out of which the rainfall has been over 350 mm on one occasion.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Santa Cruz saw 7 mm of rainfall with Colaba observing 13 mm of rainfall, as per the forecaster. 

Skymet said, "Now, conditions have become favourable for the city of Mumbai witnessing heavy to very heavy rains in the next few hours."

Warning, Skymet said, "These rains may be seen in pockets only, but traffic can be seen getting affected with waterlogging also likely in a couple of areas. Thunderclouds are moving towards the city of Mumbai from the west and heavy rain in patches are likely to be observed over the city."

In just 10 days of July 2019, Mumbai registered 815 mm of rains, against its monthly average of 840.7 mm.
