Mumbai Pune Expressway Toll: The toll charges for vehicles plying on the arterial Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be hiked by 18% from April 1, officials of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) said on Tuesday. In theory the toll charges on the first access-controlled road of the country increases by 6% per annum, but it is cumulatively implemented every three years.

A senior MSRDC official was quoted by PTI as saying this formula for increasing toll charges every three years has been laid down by the government via a notification in the year 2004. 

Mumbai Pune Expressway Toll Hike: New Toll Charges

The new toll charges that will be implemented on the key highway between the two bustling metropolis cities from April 1. These will be:

From April 1, the expressway toll for passenger vehicles like cars and jeeps will rise to Rs 320 from the current Rs 270.

Heavier vehicles like mini-buses and tempos will have to pay Rs 495 instead of the current Rs 420. 

The toll for two-axle trucks will increase to Rs 685 from the current Rs 585.

For buses, the toll charges will increase to Rs 940 from the current Rs 797. 

Three-axle trucks will be charged Rs 1,630 instead of Rs 1,380.

And multi-axle trucks and machinery-vehicles will have to pay Rs 2,165 instead of current Rs 1,835. 

Mumbai Pune Expressway Toll Hike: Next Toll Revision

In a respite for commuters, officials announced that the toll charges will not be increased after three years in 2026.

In stead, the toll will be revised post the completion of six years — in 2030.

Mumbai Pune Expressway: Facts

The six-lane Mumbai-Pune Expressway is approximately 95 kilometres long.

It was fully operationalized in 2002. 

Toll on the Mumbai Pune Expressway is collected at five toll plazas — of which two - at Khalapur and Talegaon - are the main ones. 

The Mumbai Pune Expressway is used by around 1.5 lakh vehicles everyday.
