Mumbai gets maximum rains so far this monsoon; see list
Southwest Monsoon has remained active over East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, East and Northeast India along with some parts of South Peninsular India.
By now, Monsoon has already covered the whole country. Presently, Mumbai is the rainiest place in India with 110 mm of rain, SkyMet reported.
As per the report, including Mumbai three other cities of Maharashtra have received highest rainfall today. In the past 24 hours, Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai and Banglore have witnessed heavy rainfall.
Southwest Monsoon has remained active over East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, East and Northeast India along with some parts of South Peninsular India, the report said.
Listing the top 10 rainiest places in the country as of today, SkyMet said, Mumbai was followed by Mazbat in Assam with 99 mm of rain. Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh with 95 mm stood at third spot and Dahanu in Maharashtra at fourth with 86mm of rain.
Further, at fifth spot is Banglore with 71mm of rain. Golaghat in Assam with 70mm stood at sixth, Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh with 65mm at seventh, Harnai in Maharashtra with 59mm at eighth, Ayanagar in Delhi with 54 mm at ninth and Shillong in Meghalaya with 52mm at tenth spot.
In a reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Y.S.Chowdary, on Thursday said that the rainfall in India is predicted to be above normal for 2016 with a decline in conditions of La Nina weather event.
In fact, weather forecaster, India Meteorological Department (IMD), yesterday said that the monsoon seasonal rainfall is likely to be 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of ± 5%. The LPA of the seasonal rainfall over the country as a whole for the period 1951-2000 is 89 cm.
But, in real the situation is different. The rainfall recorded during the month of June this year for the country as a whole is 145.4 (mm) against long period average (LPA) value of 163.6 mm (11% below normal). The rainfall recorded during the month last year was 189.0 (mm) (16% above normal), Chowdhary said.
