In a move to educate passengers, the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) will install witty signages in the garden area of Terminal 2 (T2). MIAL aims to spread awareness on keeping the gardening area of the iconic airport waste-free.
Apart from this, MIAL also plans to organise tours for students from nearby educational institutions in which it will educate the children on gardening at the Mumbai Airport. The agency will also call experts of botany for the same. The green area at the Mumbai airport is a botanical garden, wherein collection and display of various species is done.
The MIAL has around 75,000 sq m of gardening area, including the outdoor and the indoor plants at T2. The gardening area has around 150 species of plants from all over the country, along with one imported plant from Thailand.
“Maintaining the garden has its own challenges. Some passengers or visitors spit here or litter. Sometimes, we find pan stains everywhere. We are planning to install signages which will be educative and witty as well. Through these signs, we plan to inform the visitors about the different species of plants. We will also request them not to spit or litter the area.”

However, the MIAL will not penalise or levy a fine for spitting or littering. “We do not levy fines because it is not about penalising, but about spreading awareness to develop good habits,” the official said.
