Monday evening for the city that never sleeps, saw some frustrating moments for travellers due to heavy rains that affected all kinds of road, rail and air traffic. While the rains were definitely a positive for all concerned, but sadly it was not due to the incoming monsoon - instead it was the impact of Cyclone Vayu which is coming from the Arabian sea. While weather forecasters like Skymet and IMD have assured that there is no possible threat for Maharashtra, high tides and heavy rains can be expected in next 2 days. This is going to impact air travel!

Notably, within few hours, yesterday night many flights were diverted or delayed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Terminus. Low-cost carrier GoAir has now warned its passengers to and from Mumbai airport to check their flight status. The airline has indicated that, flights will be delayed in this region.  

GoAir, on its Twitter account said, “Due to bad weather conditions at #Mumbai flights to & from BOM may get delayed.”

GoAir has guided passengers to check for flight status via SMS G8 <space> FlightNo to 57333.

According to Skymet weather, Mumbai rains have revived, courtesy Cyclone Vayu in East-Central Arabian Sea. Even though the system was far away, but its peripherals managed to give heavy rains in Mumbai last night. Santa Cruz Observatory saw 40 mm of rains in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, while Colaba recorded 25 mm.

Skymet stated that, now rain in Mumbai is set to intensify. Cyclone Vayu, at present, is passing parallel to Karwar and Goa coast. It is moving at a good speed of about 15 kmph and would be soon hit Mumbai by today afternoon.

Hence, if you are travelling from or to Mumbai airport, you might want to plan in advance and check your flight status.
