According to the report, a central government employee had ordered two pairs of headphones to watch the FIFA World Cup. Instead of headphones, he received a bottle of oil. He then proceeded to contact Flipkart's toll-free number-1800 266 1001. On dialing this number, much to his surprise, he was greeted with 'Welcome to BJP' message.
The anonymous person, who doesn't want to be named said that he received the same result on his second attempt. The whole incident took an unexpected turn when minutes later he received a text message saying 'Welcome to BJP. Your primary membership number is 20*****351.' When he shared the
Flipkart's toll-free number with his friends, they also ended up with the same result.
The political party, however, was quick to distance itself from the row. “The number to join BJP is available on Facebook. Anyone could have shared it anywhere. We have nothing to do with it,” state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said on Monday during the sit-in demonstration of the party at Mayo Road.

Flipkart officials, meanwhile, attributed the mix-up to an old surrendered number. “The number which he dialed had been surrendered about three years ago and must have been allotted to the party. Some of the self-adhesive tapes still have the number and must have led to the goof-up,” they were quoted as saying by DNA.
