Make airports monsoon ready, DGCA to airport authorities
The presence of wild life in the vicinity poses a serious threat to aircraft operational safety.
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instruced all airport authorities to make relevant arrangments for monsoon season on all airports. DGCA has directed all the airport authorities to make relevant arrangments to keep away wild life from the ariports.
In a statement DGCA said that "during monsoon season wild life (birds and animals) activity increases in and around the airports. The presence of wild life in the vicinity poses a serious threat to aircraft operational safety."
Apart from their own measures, DGCA has also asked the airport authorities to implement several of its own directives.
Within the airport, they include - Grass trimming and insecticde spraying along with frequent runway inspection for bird activities. Also, the DGCA cautioned the aiports over water concentration and open drains on the site.
The further guidelines from DGCA suggest the airports to bird chasers and bird scaring devices as well as regularly dispoing garbage from operational area.

For outside of the airport, "the Airport Environment management Committee (AEMC) meetings have to be convened to dosicuss and review the implementation of the measures to reduce the bird hazard outside the airport." said the statement.
Apart form that, the DGCA aslo expects frequent inspection by ariport wild life hazard management team or AEMC for the identification of sources of wild life attraction such as garbage dump, open disposal of abbatoir/butcheries waste.
Lastly, co ordination with local authorities for mitigation of sources of wild life has been mandated by the DGCA.
