Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary: PM Modi, President Kovind, Manmohan Singh pay tributes to Father of the Nation

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid their tributes to the Father of the Nation today. The President said “Gandhiji is a global icon revered across continents. United Nations has marked Gandhi Jayanti as 'The International Day of Non-Violence'. Gandhian values and many of his methods remain relevant not only for India but for the entire world.”
The Prime Minister paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at New Delhi’s Rajghat. On twitter, the PM said, "Tributes to beloved Bapu! On #Gandhi150, we express gratitude to Mahatma Gandhi for his everlasting contribution to humanity. We pledge to continue working hard to realise his dreams and create a better planet."
Home Minister Amit Shah will today flag off the party's nationwide “Gandhi Sankalp Yatra” along with other leaders, including Union ministers. The four-month drive will start from different parts of the country. Prior to launching the yatra, Shah will also address a meeting in Shalimar Bagh in Delhi. Notably, the yatra aims to propagate ideals of the Father of the Nation.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi also paid their respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The Congress will celebrate Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary by organising 'padayatras' across the country. Rahul Gandhi will join the Padyatra in the national capital.
The party has also planned a week-long programme to mark the culmination of the year-long celebrations commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's contributions. The Party chief, Sonia Gandhi, will thereafter administer the oath to leaders and workers to redeem 'Gandhi, Gandhism and Gandhi's India'.
Meanwhile, Palestine on Tuesday released a commemorative postage stamp on Mahatma Gandhi, honouring his “legacy and values”.
