While talking to the media on Monday, the state cabinet minister said at least for the next 15 days, the Mumbai local trains are unlikely to resume their service for the general public as maintaining social distancing will not be possible in the local trains. At present, only government, BMC, and essential services staff are allowed to travel in the Mumbai local trains amid the deadly second wave of COVID-19.

As the positivity rate in the state of Maharashtra dropped to near 10 per cent, the state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Saturday had dropped a hint that the government might consider easing some of the COVID-19 restrictions in a phased manner after June 1. Tope was quoted saying in The Times of India, "The government will assess the situation in the last week of May. If the positivity rate falls below 10 per cent and the number of active cases comes down, the state may consider easing some restrictions."

If the media reports are to be believed, then the 'unlock process' in Maharashtra is likely to take place in four phases. In the first phase, the shops selling non-essential products and services will be reopened. The schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed for now and Mumbai's suburban local train services are likely to resume for the general public only in the last phase of reopening.

As per a DNA report, Wadettiwar also said that while the government would not relax the strict curbs in the red zone comprising 15 districts, relaxation in the other districts will be considered.
