ECI Announces Maharashtra & Jharkhand Election Dates: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced the dates of polling for Jharkhand and Maharashtra Assemblies. Voting in Jharkhand will be conducted in two phases and polling in Maharashtra will take place in a single phase, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference in the national capital. Polling will take place on November 20 (single phase) in Maharashtra and on November 13 and November 20 in Jharkhand, said the CEC.

Key Contenders | Maharashtra Assembly Election

The key contenders in the Maharashtra elections are the ruling Mahayuti Alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress.

In Jharkhand, the Congress is playing second fiddle to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, while the BJP is looking to make a comeback.

Bye-elections

Besides, the ECI will also conduct bye-elections for 48 Assembly seats (47 in Kerala and 1 in Uttarakhand) and two Parliamentary seats (Wayanad in Kerala and Nanded in Maharashtra).

J&K and Harayana poll results

The results of Assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana were declared last week.

The BJP secured a third back-to-back term in Haryana while the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance bagged an absolute majority in J&K.
