Parliamentary panel meeting postponed after SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch expresses inability to attend
A meeting of the Parliaments Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday was postponed after SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch expressed inability to attend it. Originally, Buch was scheduled to appear before the committee in what may have turned out to be a stormy meeting. A senior BJP member had suggested that political motivations were guiding the actions of the panels chairman and Congress MP KC Venugopal.
The Public Accounts Committee, responsible for auditing government revenue and expenditure, postponed its Thursday meeting in the national capital after SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch cited her inability to attend.
The meeting will be rescheduled soon, according to sources who spoke to Zee Business.
Committee Chairman and Congress MP KC Venugopal had already arrived when Buch requested an exemption due to urgent work.
Meanwhile, the main opposition walked out of Parliament.
Originally, Buch was scheduled to appear before the Public Accounts Committee at 11 am.
This follows a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member's accusations of political motivations influencing the panel's chairman.
As the BJP and its allies hold a majority in the Public Accounts Committee, they're poised to strongly oppose any issues raised by opposition members deemed outside the committee's scope.
