Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who heads a JD(S)-Congress government, today announced the coalition government's decision to cut petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre.
Although people across the country are looking at the Centre to take measures to provide them relief from rising petrol diesel prices, they have not received any respite as yet. However, some state governments have, one after another, taken steps to cut taxes on petrol and diesel to reduce prices. Karnataka has become the latest state after Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, to cut fuel prices to provide relief to its people.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who heads a JD(S)-Congress government, today announced the coalition government's decision to cut petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre.
Earlier, Vasundhara Raje government in poll-bound Rajasthan had cut fuel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre, Andhra Pradesh brought the prices down by Rs 2 per litre, while in West Bengal too prices were reduced by Re 1 per litre.
Addressing a public event in Karnataka's Kalburgi, Kumaraswamy said, "Today, this coalition government has decided to reduce both petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre."
Notably, fuel prices have been climbing since August 16, creating a political storm with the Opposition launching a scathing attack against the Narendra Modi government, which has cited international factors for this.
Fuel prices are the steepest in Maharashtra and the lowest in Andaman and Nicobar.
Petrol prices today crossed Rs 82 per litre mark in Delhi with a jump of 15 paise per litre, while the price for a litre of petrol was recorded at Rs 82.06 in the capital.
Prices of fuel were higher in Mumbai, where petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 90 per litre and Rs 79 per litre, respectively. Petrol in Mumbai now costs Rs 89.44/litre, up 15 paise per litre from September 16, when it was at Rs 89.29/litre.
