Many districts of Kerala is reeling under intense flooding situation due to heavy rains. As per latest information available, over 300 people have lost their lives and 36 are missing. Over 3.14 lakh people have been moved to relief camps.

Indian Navy and Air Force have been deployed besides NDRF to carry out rescue and relief work. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also done an aerial survey of the state. He has announced an interim relief of Rs 500 crore. 

Several states have also extended monetary as well as relief support for the state.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal today said that Indian Railways will be providing free transportation of relief material for the state.

"We are concerned about the well being of people affected by Kerala floods & the Central Govt. is committed to providing all possible help. Railways will now provide free transportation of relief material for Kerala through various State Govt. agencies, PSUs & other Govt. agencies," said Goyal in a tweet.

Earlier, Railways has also sent 2.8 lakh litres of drinking water and 1 lakh bottles of water for the state. 

"Railways is actively contributing to relief during Kerala floods and has supplied 2.8 Lakhs litres of drinking water and 1 lakh bottles of water are on their way. We are committed towards providing all possible help in this hour of need," Goyal has said in another tweet.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has thanked Modi for the help. Vijayan also said that the state requires at least Rs 2,000 crore immediately. CM also said that the state the loss from the floods, as per initial estimates, was Rs 19,512 crore.
