Karnataka trust vote: After four days of debate in the Karnataka state assembly over the confidence motion moved by the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, the HD Kumaraswamy government failed the assembly floor test by six MLAs. The JD(S)-Congress coalition government managed to get the support of 99 state legislators while those who voted against was 105, informed Karnataka assembly speaker KR Ramesh after the floor test. HD Kumaraswamy government's fall has raised morale of the BJP workers in the state as the six MLAs who didn't vote for the JD(S)-Congress coalition government are supposed to have switched their loyalty to the BJP — the principal opposition and the single largest party in the state assembly.

Karnataka, home to India's tech hub of Bengaluru, is the only one of India`s five southern states where BJP holds power. The BJP has been trying to widen its support base beyond the north and west and Karnataka is seen as a beachhead for advancing into the south long dominated by regional parties. BJP has 105 MLAs in the assembly and it has the support of one independent and KPJP which has one legislature in the house.
