Karnataka Lockdown Latest News: With the number of COVID-19 cases rising in the state even after some shutdown measures were implemented, the Karnataka government is likely to impose another complete lockdown in the state at least for two weeks after May 12, 2021. There are 48,7288 active COVID-19 cases in the state according to the state government's COVID-19 information portal.

According to a report by The Times of India, as the COVID-19 cases are on the rise in spite of the curfew, the Karnataka government now is actively considering the imposition in the state after May 12, 2021, as per the official sources. It has been witnessed that the two-week curfew from April 27 is seen to have yielded partial results in the state as the government allowed many sectors, including manufacturing, construction and garments factories, to operate with 50 per cent employees.

It is possible that the number of coronavirus cases in the state was rising as the vehicular movement in the state was virtually unchecked. People moving from Bangalore to hinterlands because of the curfew can also be one of the reasons behind the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Reportedly, the experts have suggested Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to go for a complete lockdown without any relaxation at least till May-end so that the pandemic starts receding by mid-June in other districts of the state. However, they predict that if lockdown rules are properly followed, then cases may start declining by this weekend.

As per a report by india.com, the Karnataka government has imposed full lockdown in the state from April 27 till May 12 and said the Metro Rail, taxi and bus services will not be operated, while schools and colleges, hotels, cinemas, shopping malls, stadia and swimming pools will remain closed during the 14-day lockdown.

The Times of India reported that after the cabinet meeting, the Karnataka CM told the reporters, "We will take stock of the situation on May 10 and decide on further course of action based on experts' suggestions."
