While Karnataka will go under complete lockdown from today (April 27) for two weeks, Punjab has imposed an extended night curfew or ‘daily lockdown’ across the state until further notice.

After reporting the biggest rise of over 34,000 new cases in 24 hours on Monday, Karnataka announced a two-week lockdown, starting today.
"COVID curfew will be implemented in the state from tomorrow (April 27) 9 pm for the next 14 days," Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said. He used the phrase 'close down.

Yediyurappa said essential services will be allowed between 6 am and 10 am and there will be no public transport during the curfew.
Construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors have been allowed to work. Travel restrictions have also returned as no one will be allowed to travel within or outside the state, except for emergencies.
Karnataka chief minister also informed that government hospitals would provide free vaccinations for those between 18 and 44 years.
Karnataka Covid 19 caseload on Monday stood at 34,804 cases, taking its total cases to 13.39 lakh. A total of 143 deaths were reported, taking the tally to 14,426 in the state.
In another major decision, the Punjab government imposed an extended night curfew across the state until further notice. A complete shutdown will be in place in the state from 6 pm to 5 am daily (Monday to Friday), not for other hours of the day. A weekend lockdown has also been imposed from Friday 6 pm to Monday 5 am, when the state will observe a complete shutdown except for essential services for over two days.
“Due to continuous & rapid rise of #Covid19 cases in Punjab, Cabinet today has decided to impose daily lockdown from 6 PM to 5 AM and weekend lockdown from Friday 6 PM to Monday 5 AM. Urge you all to stay at home & step out only if absolutely necessary. Seek your full cooperation,” tweeted Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Besides extending the night curfew by two hours, the state government has ordered closure of shops by 5 pm.
