The suburban Mumbai districts Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum penalised an Andheri-based jewellery store who assured it’s buyer with a better future provided the buyer bought a ring made of a particular precious stone. The forum in its orders held that the store owner gave fake assurances to the buyer just to sell his gems.
It has asked the store to pay back the ring amount of Rs 18,000 along with an additional cost of Rs 30,000 towards physical and mental harassment and Rs 10,000 as litigation charges.
Suvarna Gems and Jewellery in Andheri had employed a soothsayer who convinced buyers to buy certain gems that would bring them luck.
Complainant Bhaskar Raut alleged that the staff took him to a soothsayer who told him that his fortune would change once he starts using the precious gems. Raut used the ring for 15 days but in vain. He approached the store and demanded his cash back but the store offered him another gem.

Raut used the other gem studded ring but nothing changed. Instead, the store informed Raut that he will have to purchase some product of Rs 10,000 and only then the store would return Rs 8,000. Aggrieved by the stores, Raut approached the consumer forum.
