In a big triumph for the PM Narenndra Modi led NDA government, the Lok Sabha today passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019 and adopted the resolution to make Article 370 ineffective. This has paved  the way for the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories (UTs). Notably, the upper house of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, passed it on Monday.

Replying to the resolution and the future of J&K, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the bill that the government has brought is historic, as Article 370 prevented J&K from merging with India.

With the passage of this resolution, people from other states would now be able to buy land in the Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Monday, the BJP-led ruling alliance also received support of many non-NDA parties, and sailed through the upper house of Parliament without much effort.

The Rajya Sabha also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019, providing for 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections of upper castes in the state.
