IT Dept has sent notices to Indians named in Panama Papers expose: Jaitley
Every Indian whose name has appeared in the Panama Papers expose... the income tax department has sent notices and currently investigating the matter, the minister told the Lok Sabha in reply to a question on tax evasion.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said the Income Tax Department has sent notices to all those Indians named in the Panama Papers` expose and is investigating the matter.
"Every Indian whose name has appeared in the Panama Papers expose... the income tax department has sent notices and currently investigating the matter," he told the Lok Sabha in reply to a question on tax evasion.
The Congress has demanded that the Panama Papers be handed over to Supreme Court (SC), which is looking into the black money issue, alleging the BJP government`s decision to constitute a multi-agency group was a "shoddy attempt" to brush aside the issue.
Jaitley had earlier said the Congress 'will not have many reasons to celebrate` after the details into the Panama Papers comes out.
"It is very impartial, and a multi-agency probe is going on. When the details will come out, Congress will not have many reasons to celebrate," he said.
