Indian Railways users alert! The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has upgraded its website to the next-gen ticket system which offers more features and revamped look. The migration to the new website also included enhancement of the security features. The IRCTC has migrated its website to TLS 1.2 which doesn't support some old operating systems. This means any user having these operating systems on their laptop or desktop will not be able to book tickets using the IRCTC website.
"To enhance the security features on IRCTC e-ticketing website www.irctc.co.in, it is being migrated to TLS 1.2. TLS 1.2 is not supported in older versio ns of operating systems like Windows XP & Windows Server 2003. After migration IRCTC e-ticketing website will not be accessible in Windows XP and Windows server 2003. Users may upgrade their operating systems higher than Windows XP/Server 2003," the IRCTC had said.
It is notable that Microsoft had already ended support for Windows XP on 8 April 2014 after keeping the OS in 12 years of service. Microsoft no longer provides security updates or technical support for the Windows XP operating system. As per latest reports, the tech giant will soon be outdating security supports to the Windows 7 by 2020.
Therefore, if you also have the outdated OS, then you need to upgrade to any of the OS listed above to continue using the IRCTC services.
The Indian Railways catering arm has been expanding its footprint in verticals like Holiday Trips and Air ticketing. Recently, it has announced to provide free insurance cover worth Rs 50 lakh to users booking air ticket via IRCTC website. The IRCTC also boasts of charging low convenience fee of Rs 59 from users booking a flight ticket.
