IRCTC senior citizen concession: Save up to 60% on Indian Railways tickets
The concession is 40% for male senior citizens while it is 60% for the female senior citizen passengers.
The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) provides with several benefits and services that the passengers can avail time and again. One of the benefits is the concession that makes the train tickets affordable and is available for various quotas. Among them are the senior citizen who can get a drop in their train ticket prices with IRCTC. For senior citizens, IRCTC grants concession on the ticket fares for all classes of Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, and Duronto trains. The concession is 40% for male senior citizens while it is 60% for the female senior citizen passengers.
Who qualifies for concession?
A male senior who is of minimum 60 years of age and a woman who is minimum 58 years of age is categorized as a senior citizen. The individuals who qualify the age criteria can only avail the concession.
One can avail the concession by making ticket purchases over the counter, reservation offices or the e-ticketing website http://www.irctc.co.in/ To do so, the passenger needs to provide their age, by selecting “Avail Concession” option under “Option for Senior Citizen Concession” option under the Passenger details form.
However, with the Forgo Senior citizen concession, the senior citizen passenger can opt out of the senior citizen fully or contribute partial amount for the benefit of national development.
For senior citizen passengers who wish to opt out of the concession can choose the option of “Forgo Full Concession" option under “Option for Senior Citizen Concession” option in the Passenger details form.
Meanwhile, one can select “Forgo 50% Concession” if they wish to contribute a part of the concession, by selecting the said option in the Passenger Details form.
