Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the latter. IRCTC's eWallet scheme allows the user to deposit money in advance with the company's ticketing services which can be used as payment option along with other payment options available on IRCTC for paying money at the time of booking tickets.
The users of the IRCTC ticket booking portal can pay ticket booking amount through IRCTC eWallet which is displayed as payment option along with other Banks.
While the website claims many benefits of using its eWallet service, paying through IRCTC's eWallet saves you money charged as a processing fees by payment gateways. The processing fees for different gateways may wary. With IRCTC, the transaction charges are only Rs 10 along with service tax per transaction. The eWallet can be managed online with the top-up facility online.
IRCTC also claims to give the eWallet users a hassle-free service with lower turnaround time by eliminating payment approval cycle. The dependency on a specific bank is reduced, as and when any of the provided banks go offline, you can still book tickets from your IRCTC eWallet account.
The IRCTC charges a registration fee of Rs 50 with service tax which is non-refundable. No cash refunds or redemption are allowed in the service.
The eWallet service can only be availed by users registered with by Indian Nationals and with Indian Mobile Number. The balance can only be used for booking railway tickets.

The IRCTC eWallet service also provides for an easy refund in case of ticket cancellation, the website claims. The due refund will be credited to user's IRCTC eWallet
account, the next day.
