IRCTC offers this gift worth Rs 50 lakh for free to users
After insuring Indian Railways passengers, the catering arm of the public transporter has now come up with an insurance offer for air passengers.
IRCTC air ticket booking: After insuring Indian Railways passengers, the catering arm of the public transporter has now come up with an insurance offer for air passengers as well. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation has announced that any passenger booking air ticket using its website irctc.co.in can avail free-of-cost travel insurance of Rs 50 lakh. To provide insurance to its users booking air ticket, the IRCTC has tied up with Bharti AXA General Insurance. The insurance will be available for all the passengers - be it domestic or international, irrespective of the class.
"The premium for insurance will be borne by IRCTC to secure its passengers from any untoward incident during the journey to make their air travel hassle free and more secured. The insurance cover will be for both one way and round trip air travel booked on IRCTC portal," said an IRCTC statement.
To promote air ticket booking using its platform, the IRCTC has been offering tickets with lowest convenience charges of Rs 59 per segment.

The IRCTC had been offering free travel insurance to its passengers as well but later it was made optional. Now, an IRCTC user booking rail ticket using irctc.co.in has a choice to opt-in or opt-out of the travel insurance. The premium has been set at 49 paise per passenger inclusive of all taxes w.e.f 01-Oct-2018. The insurance provides a benefit of Rs 10,00,000 in case of death and permanent total disability, Rs 7,50,000 in case of permanent partial disability, Rs 2,00,000 in case of injury and Rs 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains.
