At around the same stage last year, Delhi had lost six out of eight matches and was at the bottom of the points table. The team had eventually finished at the same spot. But, this year, the new-look side has bounced back under the captaincy of young Shreyas Iyer. The arrival of experienced Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers Hyderabad has helped the otherwise flambouyant top-order of Delhi. Dhawan scored a match-winning 97 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last game while his opening partner Prithvi Shaw too has registered a score in 90s earlier in the tournament.
However, there could be trouble for the side as captain Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury scare on Wednesday when he was hit on the right arm during training. Iyer has been the team's leading run-getter in the tournament with 266 runs at an average of 33.25. There was no official update given on the extent of his injury.
Delhi Capitals are on course for their first play-off appearance since 2012, having won five out of their eight games. They are second on the points table with 10 points.
