Indias trade deficit widens to $ 13841.72 million in May
Taking merchandise and services together, overall trade deficit for the first two months of FY18 was at $ 27090.91 million compared to $11117.77 million during April-May 2016.
India's trade deficit for the month of May 2017 stood at $ 13841.72 million as against the deficit of $ 6272.90 million in the corresponding period of the previous year, said Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
Exports in May 2017 exports witnessed growth of 8.32% in dollar terms valued at $ 24014.62 million as compared to $ 22170.62 million during May,2016.
In rupee-terms, export registered a positive growth of 4.30% in rupee terms valued at Rs 154,713.69 crore as compared to Rs 148,336.31 crore a year ago same month.
While imports stood at $ 37856.34 million (Rs. 243888.74 crore), higher by 33.09% in dollar terms and 28.16% in rupee terms over the level of import valued at $ 28443.52 million (Rs 190, 306.19 crore) in May, 2016.
During the same, oil imports were valued at $ 7692.71 million which was 29.54% higher than oil imports valued at $ 5938.59 million in May 2016.
