The Indian Government has put restrictions on the export of essential medicines and raw material to deal with any eventuality of the Coronavirus outbreak. The advisory regarding the restriction on the export of essential medicines and raw material has been issued on the recommendations of an advisory committee. The restrictions will continue till the time any further order is issued by the government.

Why did the advisory committee recommended for restrictions on export on essential medicines and APIs?
-- To ensure availability of essential medicines and APIs in the domestic markets at all times
-- The recommendations were made by an advisory committee of the health ministry
-- Restrictions could lead to a shortage of medicines in the Indian Markets
-- Indian pharmaceutical companies rely on China for over 70% of the raw material for manufacturing medicines
-- The coronavirus epidemic has caused the complete shutdown of Chinese factories
-- The government may lift restrictions only after the situation comes under control
Coronavirus, which has become a global health emergency, claiming over 3000 lives worldwide and infecting more than 80000 people, has now reached India.
Three positive cases of coronavirus have emerged in India from Delhi, Telangana, and Rajasthan. Even a private school in Noida has postponed exams and fumigated its premises after the father of a student tested positive for coronavirus, according to a media report.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday tweeted an advisory listing out the measures that can be used to prevent COVID-19. In his tweet, the PM also appealed to the people to not panic. "Different ministries & states are working together, from screening people arriving in India to providing prompt medical attention," PM's tweet said.
While the first reports on Coronavirus came when three cases in Kerala were reported. All three patients were eventually quarantined and discharged from the hospital.
