Indian Railways is likely to replace its high-speed premium trains Shatabdi Express with its first semi-high speed train, Train 18. Railways will launch it as an inter-city train. Train 18, which will run at a speed of 160km/hour, is equipped with the world-class amenities. Train 18, part of 'make in India' project, is manufactured at ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in Chennai. According to ICF, it will be manufactured at half the cost of a similar train set being imported from other nations.

According to media reports, the first train set of the Train 18 will have 16 chair-car type coaches, both executive and non-executive. The maximum seating capacity of executive chair cars will be 56 passengers, while those of non-executive will be 78, not to mention, it will be a fully air-conditioned train. The report further stated that Train 18 will have a wifi connection, and will boasts of a GPS-based passenger information system.
 
The train will have zero discharge bio-vacuum toilets. It will also have driving cabins at both ends of the train. The coaches of the self-propelled train set will be interconnected with fully sealed gangways, as per DNA report. 

The Ministry of Railways is planning to run a semi-high speed Indian Railways train between Delhi and Jaipur. Unbelievable as it sounds, the new train, which will run at a whopping speed of 200 km/hour, is likely to cover the distance in just 90 minutes. The details of the semi-high speed train project have been shared by North Western Railways.

According to media reports, a MoU has been signed with company FS-Italferr to prepare a feasibility report. This is a railway engineering company based in Italy. For coordination of the study, NW Railways authorities have been asked to nominate an ADRM rank official.

Currently, the trains at the Jaipur-Delhi route can attain a speed of 110 kilometres per hour. Normally, the trains, maintain a speed of 80 km/hour to 95 km/hour. Notably, with the introduction of the high-speed train, the distance will now be covered in less than 2 hours.
