How to check PNR status: PNR is number which gives complete travel information to ticket holders. The pieces of nformation included in PNR status are - booking status whether your ticket is confirmed or not, also if it is on waiting list or under reservation against cancellation (RAC). Apart from this, the PNR also gives basic details like arrival and departure time of train, coach, seat number and fares paid by a passengers among others.

Every time a passenger buys an Indian Railway ticket, the Central Railway information system maintains the details of this passenger through 10-digit number which is PNR. 

Even in case of bulk booking, a single PNR number can hold maximum six passengers details. 

Under PNR, the first three digit reveals the information of passenger reservation system or PRS which means from where the ticket is booked. The other seven digit number is generated randomly representing the journey details. 

Passenger details like name, age, sex, birth preference is included in PNR. While ticket information like train number, travel date, from - to train journey, boarding station, reservation up to, class, berth and quota is intimated. 

This 10-digit PNR number is generally printed at the top left corner of Indian Railways ticket, which are available at railway station booking window. Notably, in case of E-ticketing, the PNR is mentioned at the top in a separate cell.
