Indian Railways takes this step to decongest Ghaziabad-New Delhi corridor

The Ghaziabad-New Delhi stretch, probably one of the most busiest rail corridors, is likely to see traffic easing soon, as the Indian Railways has proposed an additional rail bridge over Yamuna river in the capital. The new bridge, which will come up near the existing Nizamuddin rail bridge, is likely to facilitate seamless run of 150 outbound and inbound trains. Besides that, old Yamuna rail bridge will also see a new double-line rail bridge by March next year, according to an IANS report.
 
At present, train movement between these two stations takes long hours due to congestion. Many trains stuck in this stretch after running on time till Ghaziabad. The new bridge will bring down traffic on the existing bridge, improving the punctuality of the Delhi-bound trains. The 800-metre-long new rail bridge, which will cost Rs 200 crore, is likely be operational by March 2019.
 
The Indian Railways may also build additional path for Delhi-bound trains to improve punctuality. There will not be reportedly any restriction on speed limit on this bridge, unlike the old Yamuna bridge where trains are allowed only at 20/30 kmph.

In recent times the Indian Railways has faced criticism over the poor punctuality due to ongoing work on tracks to ensure safety. Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said the national transporter was trying to improve punctuality and safety, pulling up railway officials for poor punctuality record.
