Indian Railways ticket booking confirmation: Getting one confirmed ticket is an onerous task and when your journey date comes nearer, it becomes even more difficult. Many people book tickets in two-three trains with the hope that at least one ticket will be confirmed by the IRCTC. Now, there is good news for passengers as the IRCTC website has added a new service that will tell how much chances you have to get a confirmed ticket. The passengers at least will be able to know their chances of getting one confirmed ticket.
The passengers will now know the probability of confirmation of wait-listed tickets. The IRCTC website will predict this based on a new algorithm developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). According to a PTI report the idea was mooted by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. The process of inducting the predictive service on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website started last year.
To arrive at a reliable figure, the algorithm will take into account last 13 years' data, the report said. This will help passengers take decisions While predictions have been used by private players, the officials said that the Indian Railways system would be more reliable as it would have the advantage of the database of the national transporter. So, now, an IRCTC user need not even log on to the new website to enquire or search for trains to check about availability of confirmed tickets.
