The Indian Railway is trying to bring some changes to enhance travellers' comfort and satisfaction. The dark blue coaches of the national carrier will be a thing of the past now. It will repaint all Mail and Express trains in beige and brown colours. Delhi-Pathankot Express reportedly will be the first train to get new colour.
However, Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto will not be painted freshly. Coaches of Mail/Express trains manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai will be painted. The new colour scheme was developed by a Northern Railway in-house team, according to an IANS report. Tejas and Gatimaan Express will also not don new colour.
A complete makeover of coaches was long overdue, a senior Railways Ministry official was quoted as saying. The new colour scheme was applied in trains after it was finally approved by Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, the official said. Dark blue colour for Mail/Express coaches was introduced in 1990s. Prior to that, Indian Railways' trains colours used to be in brick red.
The Indian Railways will paint 30,000 coaches in the new colour scheme for more pleasing travel experience. The official said the colour change was part of the Railways` efforts to enhance passengers` travel experience. The Indian Railways has also taken steps to improve the interiors of the coaches with additional facilities, the report said.
