Indian Railways goes into ultra-safe mode over collapsing Mumbai bridges now
the authorities have shut down an another road over bridge (ROB) between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli stations. The measure has been taken on Sunday due to fear of it collapsing.
After Andheri Bridge collapse, the Indian Railways and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation are in no mood to take any further risks. For that, the authorities have shut down an another road over bridge (ROB) between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli stations. The measure has been taken on Sunday due to fear of it collapsing. However, the bridge was partially opened later during the day.
The bridge connects LBS Road and Eastern Express Highway and runs over Indian Railways line between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli stations.
Besides, the Indian Railways is now concerned about the enormous bunch of cables in the bridges that run over railways lines across the city, reports DNA. It has therefore, asked BMC either to underground them or build separate elevated structure for them. It has also suggested to remove paver blocks from the pedestrian part of these bridges.
Informing about the ROB, authorities said, “It is noticed that the footpath at Vikhroli end of this ROB is unsafe as it is over burdened with 400 mm thickness of paver blocks and utility services like power cables, telephone lines, optical fibre cables and water pipeline passing over it.” He added that the Ghatkopar-Vikhroli bridge has similar issues as that of Andheri bridge.
