Indian Railways food: On October 2, you will get just this meal; check the delicacies
The IRCTC will be introducing a special vegetarian menu on the trains and, notably, avoid any non-vegetarian option on that day. The report said that special menu for Gandhi Jayanti will comprise stuffed parathas, kulchas, paneer dishes and varieties of desserts.
Indian Railways, of late, has made several efforts to provide better facilities to woo travellers, and its wing Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) too has striven hard to improve food quality as per the expectations of passengers. IRCTC efforts have yielded results and encouraged by such initiatives, it has decided to take a road less travelled. It has been reported that 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, will be celebrated in a different way and that passengers will get a different experience.
According to reports, the IRCTC will be introducing a special vegetarian menu on the trains and, notably, avoid any non-vegetarian option on that day. The report said that special menu for Gandhi Jayanti will comprise stuffed parathas, kulchas, paneer dishes and varieties of desserts. IRCTC spokesperson Siddharth Singh told Hindustan Times, “The instructions have been given to IRCTC operating in all zonal railways to serve vegetarian meals on the trains. The vegetarian meals will be served on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.”
Therefore, passengers starting the journey on October 2 will not be able to select non-vegetarian food, and instead will get only vegetarian food. However, from October 3, the non-veg food will reportedly be back on Indian Railways menu.
Earlier in January, 2018, the railway board had forwarded the idea to serve vegetarian meals on October 2, and the decision to implement this plan was reportedly taken last week.
The Central (CR) and western railways (WR) will reportedly launch digital museums and undertake cleanliness drives to mark the anniversary. The cleanliness drive, ‘Swachhata Pakwada’, will start on September 15 and end on October 2, the report said, adding that it will focus the cleanliness of railway premises, especial toilets at stations.
Notably, digital museums will be set up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Thane and Lonavala railway stations, showcasing the freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi along with the history of Indian railways.
