Indian Railways food crack down: Get it free if this is not done; Piyush Goyal vows action
The Railway minister said, "Demand a bill from the railway catering staff. If no bill is given, then refuse to pay. My officers will deal with the matter," while addressing an Indian Chamber of Commerce event in Kolkata yesterday. In short, passengers can get the food for free if the bill is not presented by staff!
Indian Railways is striving hard to improve its catering service to help passengers partake of the best quality food during their train journey, but complaints about food service or overcharging still abound. Taking these complaints seriously, Railway minister Piyush Goyal has asked passengers to insist on bills from the Indian Railways catering staff who are being equipped with point-of-sale (PoS) machines for the purpose.

Further, Goyal said the point-of-sale machines (PSM), issued to catering staff, would help in stoppage of tipping to such staff, adding that an announcement in this regard would be made soon and all the catering staff would be provided with POS machines. The move would also plug the loss of revenue for railways, he added.
Notably, Indian Railways in the past few years has come up with numerous services to make train travel a convenient experience for the passengers. Of these initiatives, it has introduced e-catering service through which a passenger can pick food from a wide range of menu during the journey.
